A California teenager has invented a device to deploy from a porch or fence or post that can protect property from wildfires. Arul Mathur’s hope is his Fire Activated Canister Extinguisher (FACE) will help rural homeowners protect their property from wildfires.

The FACE cannister has a glycerin bulb to trigger operation. When that bulb reaches 155 degrees Fahrenheit, the cannister starts fire retardant flowing and a spray head disperses the fluid 360 degrees. Mathur told NowThis Kids that once FACE is installed, ” it’s ready and it doesn’t require any more manual intervention after that.”

All FACE profits will be directed to donating more devices to areas of high wildfire risk. The broader strategy is to create fire breaks, preventing the wildfire from passing into rural or suburban property.
